About Wolf Kerschek
The Echo Award Winner, Wolf Kerschek, sees himself as a world musician, having
experience with different musical cultures and societies and he incorporates these
experiences into his own music. As a result he has developed into a composer with
his own musical language that is rooted in diverse traditions.
Wolf Kerschek is responsible for Bigband Arrangements for the “who is who” of the
international jazz scene, as well as for the orchestral sound of many major music
productions from Helene Fischer to Rammstein.
Wolf Kerschek is Professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg and
the head of the Jazz Department.

A Statement from the Composer concerning this Album
On the occasion of the award of the “Hamburg Jazz Award” in May 2013 to me, I felt compelled to deal
with the question concerning how the development of Jazz Music and the music generally would look like in
the future. Every Music style has something special that I love about it:
- The unbridled freedom and spontaneity of jazz music
- The emotive sound and the complex polyphony of symphonic classical music
- The vivid groove and soul of world music.
I am convinced that these characteristics will live on in the music of the future.
My vision has always been to combine the essence of these different styles of music to find new ways of
musical expression.
The result in this case is a declaration of love to the Music City of Hamburg, that is, with it’s multicultural,
cosmopolitan society and its brilliant and versatile musicians, able to realize such visions.
The combination of these different music traditions is the foundation of my own musical language.
