Apocalypsis World Première Recording

A selection of remarkable works by the Slovak composer Peter Zagar (born 1961). At the centre of this collection stands the cantata Apocalypsis Iohannis, with which Zagar enters into a dialogue with the magnificent tradition of Christian musical culture. In doing so, he enables the values of that tradition to return at least for a moment among us, to be present in our time and in our space – for which those values are no more than a distant memory. This release also includes Music for Video, Trio for Clarinet, Cello and Piano, Four Pieces for Strings, and Quintet for Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello and Piano. Anton Popovič conducts VENI ensemble and Bratislava Chamber Soloists, two chamber works are performed by the Opera Aperta Ensemble, and Apocalypsis Iohannis brings together the soprano Jana Pastorková, the mezzo Petra Noskaiová, and Camerata Bratislava led by Jan Rozehnal.
