About wazzara

In a simultaneously heavy, somber and ethereal manner, wazzara weave elements of doom, post metal and blackgaze into their very own web of abysses and yet luminosity.

wazzara was created in 2015 as a solo project of Swiss singer and composer Barbara Brawand. The first EP "zessa", which was released in 2019 and created in collaboration with Icelandic musician and composer Árni Bergur Zoëga, paved the way for all the waters to flow further.

In 2020 George Necola on bass, Mäsi Stettler on guitar and Julia Kapp on drums joined the band and henceforth wazzara should have been to be experienced live on stage. But everything is always subject to constant change and Julia left the band for personal reasons just before the upcoming studio recordings. As a replacement the drums were recorded by Romanian musician Andrei Jumugă as a session guest. Thus was born "Cycles", the band's first full-length album, which was released on October 31, 2021.

No rest for the wicked, they say, and soon the wazzara coven expanded in 2021 with Deniz Lebovci on drums and in 2022 with Tom Kuzmic as a further guitarist.

By the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023 the band recorded three new songs, which will be released as EP "Ombreine" on April 30, 2023.

Always both dreamy and furious like unrestrained, roaring streams of water, the band can today be witnessed live near and far. In addition, and since the beginning of wazzara’s history, Barbara has been rowing on a side river with her ethereal acoustic songs as a solo performance act to this day.
