Peace and Mercy – Choral and Chamber Music by Lukáš Borzík

Missa da pacem by Slovak composer Lukáš Borzík is a large-scale work for mixed choir and string orchestra that evolved over more than two decades and represents one of the central works of the composer’s vocal output. The composition was awarded the Ján Levoslav Bella Prize and is dedicated to the victims of war. The recording was made in the acoustic space of St Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava, whose natural reverberation forms an integral part of the musical expression.
The second work on the album, Wind Quintet “Songs of Mercy,” presents seven contemplative movements based on the idea of an “infinite melody” — a musical symbol of mercy. The music unfolds as a sequence of meditative images in which breath, prayer and sound merge into a single musical form.
Together, these two works form a musical diptych focused on the themes of peace and mercy — two closely related spiritual principles that form the inner axis of the entire album. Borzík’s music is characterized by long melodic lines, inner proportional balance, and a contemplative musical language often associated with the tradition of sacred minimalism.
