When I was but a young lad in the early '60s (indulge me here), I was quite the purist--the latest recordings by Cannonball, Coltrane, and Oliver Nelson and the like--were all my discriminating taste would tolerate. I acquired a tremendous fondness for this style of "mainstream" jazz. But suddenly, as a new style of instrumental music emerged, I felt drawn to it--and the fusion movement was indeed underway for many of us "jazzers." Now, almost 20 years later, I wanted to pick up where I'd left off and record something more "mainstream." In order to do this I have assembled as fine a band as the law will allow--Randy Brecker, Pete Christlieb, George Bohanon, Kenny Kirkland, John Patitucci, Mike Fisher and Will Kennedy. I'm very proud to be a part of this project and hope that you enjoy being "born again" as much as I did. (Tom Scott - liner notes)
