Snake Skin Oil

Snake Skin Oil was written in response to the exhausting cycle of political theatre that has unfolded in the United States over the past several decades. As an American living in Europe, I've watched from afar as the same statements, explanations, and thoughts and prayers seem to follow every national tragedy, while meaningful change remains frustratingly out of reach and blatant corruption goes unchallenged. I believe the population is weary, and that by now we should have reached the point that we are plain sick and tired of it.

More recently, it's been unsettling to see echoes of that same style of politics emerging in parts of Europe. History has never been short of snake-oil salesmen, and this song is a reflection of my frustration with those in positions of power (across the political spectrum) who sell empty promises, profit from division, and stoke fear for their own gain.

Musically, Snake Skin Oil doesn't wallow in that frustration, it dances with it. It's an energetic, infectious tune with playful vocal melodies, driving rhythms, and a touch of swing. The cello solo carries subtle Eastern European influences, adding another layer of character before launching back into the song's irresistible chorus. It's a track that's equal parts sharp social commentary and joyful release, inviting you to shimmy and shake along from the very first measures.
