Elements

Elements is a suite of five original compositions inspired by the classical four elements - Air, Earth, Fire and Water, culminating in the titular piece Elements.

This album features a string trio, comprising of violin, viola and cello, alongside a jazz piano trio with Nick Lenner-Webster on double bass and Ted Carrasco on drums. The collaboration with all the exceptional musicians on the album has enabled us to create a rich tapestry of sound that interweaves fully composed music, structured jazz improvisation, and free improvisation.

Each element begins with a composed string trio prelude, setting the tone for the piece. This is followed by an expressive performance from the jazz trio, which then seamlessly transitions into a freely improvised piano accompaniment over which a sonnet is spoken, leading naturally into the next composition. This structure not only highlights the versatility and interplay between the musicians but also creates a narrative flow that guides the listener through the journey of the elements.

Elements explores the boundaries of expression, integrating carefully worded text with a dynamic range of musical styles, the fusion of composed and improvised elements.
