TAMARA DEY – “PROMISES”
The wait is finally over. After Tamara Dey gave us some Disco Therapy and made all our lives a little better, she now delivers a brand new treat for our ears, "Promises", released through David Gresham Records. Tamara has had a long love affair with "Promises", the much loved and self-penned Brenda Fassie anthem. As a huge Brenda Fassie fan, she was honoured to be invited to sing it at one of Brenda's memorials after her sad and untimely passing. She has since included it in her live sets over the years, always dreaming of reimagining and releasing it herself. Tamara and her co-producers, Gary Van Riet and RJ Benjamin have paid much reverence and respect to the song in their journey to bring to life a modern, house-infused, afro disco interpretation of this classic.Dey and Van Riet not only wanted to deliver a banger of note but wanted to utilize the enormous musical talent around them here in South Africa. RJ's soaring strings, guitarist Zam Boney's infectious African guitar licks, drummer Isaac Klawansky’s addictive percussion, topped off by award winning young jazz saxophonist Godfrey Mntambo's soulful sax hooks, these artists all helped take the song to new and incredible heights. Collaborating with the SAMPRA development fund on the production of her latest music has helped Tamara finance the mixing and mastering of this release. The single was mixed and mastered at the brand new and renowned Jazzworx studios by Robin Kohl, assisted by Gregory Nottingham, further taking the production onto a world class level.Tamara feels that it couldn't be a more important time for this song to come back into our lives. In recent headlines on the front page of the Star newspaper, it read, "Promises and more promises!". She feels like many of us, that as a country we have been made so many promises that haven't been kept. There is no better time for this song to remind us of our tenacity and fighting spirit as a nation. She hopes that with the release of "Promises" we will all be inspired to take a feather from Brenda's "beret" and unapologetically use our voices without compromise. This also gives us the opportunity to remind ourselves as South Africansthat we can all do more to celebrate our local icons and maintain an ongoing love and respect for their incredible contribution to the music universe.Tamara is currently working with her team to produce a music video as well as a nationwide tour to uplift all who hear and see her.Tamara is extremely proud and excited to have the opportunity to honour Brenda in this way, sharing her unique version of this iconic song with her legions of fans, while introducing a timeless classic to a new generation!
