The fourteenth Savoy studio album. It remains the band's heaviest release
The fourteenth SB studio albums. It remains the band's hardest / heaviest release. By 1978, Simmonds was getting desperate after declining record sales and 28 members in 13 years. A major blow was losing Paul Raymond to UFO in 1977. Bassist Ian Ellis (promoted to lead vocalist) and drummer Tom Farnell were retained. For the first time SB was a three piece - a power trio. Perhaps producer Mutt Lange, losing Raymond to UFO or the success of Foghat played a part in the tougher approach. Regardless, a great one. Featured "The First Night", "Spirit High", "Walk Before You Run", "My Own Man", ...The band supported the album opening for AC/DC and UFO in the US. Sadly the album didn't get a UK release or break the US top 200 and the band was subsequently dropped by longtime label London / Deram. The crap cover sleeve probably didn't help. After the tour, Simmonds moved to The US and formed yet another version of the band (with many more to come).
