Marij Čuk - Črni obroč

Črni obroč tržaškega pesnika in pisatelja Marija Čuka je prvi roman o požigu Narodnega doma v Trstu 13. julija 1920. Verige fašističnega nasilja so začele stiskati Slovence ne le v Trstu in okolici, temveč ves narod, druge Slovane in neitalijane sploh.

Črni obroč (The Black Ring) by Trieste poet and writer Marij Čuk is the first novel about the burning of the Narodni dom (National Hall) in Trieste on 13 July 1920. The chains of fascist violence began to oppress Slovenians not only in Trieste and its surroundings, but throughout the entire nation, as well as being felt by other Slavs and non-Italians in general. Flora Schwarzkopf and Otto von Helmut, two lovers from Vienna, also become caught up in the fray. In addition to fulfilling some of Otto’s obligations, they had come to the seaside city to enjoy themselves and spend a few pleasant days together. However, they soon sense that the atmosphere in the city is electrified, hostile, and then they experience the culmination of the fascist violence, the burning of the Narodni dom, where they were staying. They will return home deeply shaken and changed.
The story in fourteen chapters is read by the dramatic actress Patrizia Jurinčič Finžgar, who is a member of the Slovene National Theatre in Nova Gorica and is from Trieste herself. It is directed by Alen Jelen. The novel Črni Obroč in the form of an audio book is dedicated to the memory of the burning of the Trieste Narodni dom, which Slovenians experienced one hundred years ago.
