After the successful release of his debut "Six String Demonization", the second solo album of Olaf Urban is now available since spring 2011. The title of the CD "El Alemán" is a tribute to his large fan base in South America. This new album consistently follows the debut with progressive, surprising and technically outstanding guitar playing. All friends of fast lead guitars and catchy melodies are well served. Of course the listeners find many new ideas and sounds on "El Alemán". Overall, this album is not quite as dark as the first release. You certainly should listen to "Walking On Desert Sands" and "Unkown Destination". These songs clearly show that Olaf Urban has a solid base in classical guitar. Rough licks are contrasted by elegant pickings and acoustic lead guitars. "Cactus Valley" and the title track "El Alemán" are real hardrock tunes with a catchy character. An interesting exception on this CD is "Gimme Some Chocolate", on one hand by the arrangement with a lot of blues and funk elements, on the other hand by the guest appearance of Joanna with her sensational soulful voice. "What The Funk Are You Talking About" proves that Peter Frampton is not the only musician who is able to use a guitar talkbox well. In conclusion, Olaf Urban has presented an impressive work with "El Alemán". The arrangements are complex and yet easy to follow … music for both brain and heart. No doubt his guitar work stands comparison with other well-known virtuosos. ------------------------------------------ Nach erfolgreichem Release seines Debüts "Six String Demonization" gibt es nun seit Anfang 2011 das zweite Soloalbum von Olaf Urban. Der Titel dieser CD "El Alemán" ist eine Hommage an die mittlerweile große Fanbase in Südamerika. Musikalisch folgt das neue Album konsequent dem Erstlingswerk … progressiv, extravagant und handwerklich außergewöhnlich. Alle Freunde von schnellen Sologitarren werden bestens bedient, genauso wie Fans von eingängigen Melodien. Natürlich findet der Hörer auf "El Alemán" viele neue Ideen und Sounds. Insgesamt ist das Album nicht ganz so düster wie sein Vorgänger. Ein Anspieltip ist mit Sicherheit "What The Funk Are You Talking About". In diesem Song stellt Olaf Urban unter Beweis, daß Peter Frampton nicht der einzige Musiker ist, der mit einer Talkbox umgehen kann. "Walking On Desert Sands" und "Unknown Destination" wiederum zeigen deutlich, daß er eine solide Ausbildung im klassischen Bereich hat und auf Nylon-Saiten genauso zu Hause ist wie auf der E-Gitarre. Harte Riffs stehen im Kontrast mit ausgefeilten Pickings und Akustik-Sologitarren. "Gimme Some Chocolate" ist einerseits durch das Arrangement eine Ausnahme auf der CD, andererseits durch den Gastauftritt von Joanna mit ihrer sensationellen Soulstimme. Bei anderen Liedern geht es aber wieder standesgemäß rauh und instrumental zur Sache. Der Titeltrack "El Alemán" sowie "Cactus Valley" sind echte Hardrocker mit Ohrwurm-Charakter. Als Fazit gilt es festzuhalten, daß Olaf Urban mit "El Alemán" ein beeindruckendes Werk vorgelegt hat. Seine Gitarrenarbeit braucht den Vergleich mit anderen namhaften Virtuosen nicht zu scheuen. Die Arrangements sind vielschichtig und dennoch nachvollziehbar … Musik für Kopf und Bauch gleichermaßen.
