Inspirations
With my melodies, which often come to me very spontaneously or emerge from improvisation, I let myself be guided above all by feeling and emotion. With my music, I intend to communicate or pass on something of my innermost being and thereby reach the heart and soul of the listener. Those people whose "antenna" is aligned with the frequency of my music will be able to receive and "understand" it.The composition process, i.e. the continuation, further development and modification of musical ideas and their embedding in formal structures, takes place exclusively at the piano. Only after the final touches have been made and a few days of time have passed, does the notation take place. In CD descriptions and reviews, terms such as "between classical and jazz", "crossover", "between serious and popular music", "influences of Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea", "motoric power of a Bartók" etc. have been used. As long as these merely serve to convey a vague stylistics without definitive categorisation, I have no objection. But there is always the danger of steering the listener's expectations in a given direction. Of course, every music recipient makes partly different associations based on his or her own listening experience. One critic stated that everything in my music seems "very personal, very independent". That is a compliment for me. As a performer and composer who strives to create his own "musical narrative", I am not a representative of classical music, impressionism, jazz, pop or anything else. Completely alien to me would be copying a composer or a particular style. My wish: an open, unbiased listener who, when receiving music, does not filter it through intellectual glasses and is thus much better able to perceive the actual message of the music.Nikolaus Wiplinger
