The story of Rose Ola Seks

Asgard Psychiatric Hospital, TromsØ, Norway, Friday July 22nd  2011. Late on a summer day, time seems to have come to a standstill. Rose Øla Seks has been confined there since February 16th 1994 after murdering three people in the most horrendous way. Following several assessments carried out by two psychiatrists, she was not deemed criminally responsible for the killings. As shown by their reports, she acted on impulse, overwhelmed with delusional thoughts, following a great shock. 

Indeed, on November 13th 1993, Rosa lost her only son Elias, aged 12,  to violent meningitis. She couldn't come to terms with her son's death and locked herself up into denial of her loss. A few weeks later, she assassinated middle-school headmaster Emma Petersen, family doctor Sander Arnessen, and Father Jonas Bakke, although he had supported her for a long time. During the trial, she revealed that in return for the killings, the Demon had promised he would bring her son back to life, such was the deal.

Rose had always had a borderline personality disorder. A teenage mother at 15, she had long been shunted around from institution to institution. Her father was an alcoholic, her mother had never been capable of protecting her, not to mention displaying the slightest empathy. When Rose gave birth to Elias, she wanted to show  the whole world that she was going to provide him with all she had been deprived of. Elias' s father was unknown, she brought her son up alone and had a very fusional relationship with him.

Her son's presence was a source of resilience and allowed her, at last, to get her head above water and soothe her deeply tormented mind. Unfortunately, bad luck struck again, taking away from her the only person that gave meaning to her life. 

Friday, July 22nd 2011, Rose is in the asylum's common room. TV spews out the latest news on a loop. All of a sudden, she stares at the screen, her attention drawn by a familiar-looking face. She gets closer to the Tv set. The journalist is speaking about a terrorist attack on the UtØya Island and a number of victims. And there, on the right of the screen, she can still see the embedded picture of that same face : Anders Behring Breivik. She is convinced this man is Elias, now a grown-up.

Had the Demon fulfilled his pledge ?
