LALLI — Seventeen Miniatures for Violin and Piano
Lalli (Lullabies) have emerged overtime for different reasons. Initially, as a soft memory of the fading soul of Omayra Sanchez (No.1) or the birth of my nephew Dominik (No.2), a small gift from the bottom of my heart dedicated to my brother’s little family. It had all begun with those two pieces, which lived alone for quite some time. Not for a second did I think that one day there would be seventeen of them… It is undoubtedly my dear friend Marián Lejava’s doing, who was later joined by another soul close to mine, Jana Kmiťová. Both of these composers, after listening to the second Lallus, urged me to continue writing and finish this cycle of petite pieces, which would eventually form a full-length work.Every single Lallus has a shared taste of tenderness and melancholy, as I intended. I did not mean for them to sound like music that would lull a baby, but first and foremost as an endless sound palette for calming the mind and diving into the endless stream of thoughts and inner space.
