Smile When You're Wasted
After a series of single releases alternative-outlaw-country-rock & americana artist Marc Miner finally presents his debut-album “Smile When You’re Wasted” on October 23rd. Marc Miner’s debut album “Smile When You’re Wasted” is a collection of 11 fun and thoughtful songs about pick-up trucks, neon lights, empty bottles, troubled minds, tough guys and sexy girls. You could see yourself in a country bar with a drink jamming out to the songs. You could envision couples slow square dancing to it out on the dance floor. This album definitely is meant for the marginalized crowd. As Marc Miner knows, you can easily fall by the wayside in this race called life. He does songs for those that are down and out. He speaks to the people that don’t quite fit in. Take “Whiskey & Weed” (track #5) for example: it’s a well-crafted country-smasher with reference to the classic devil-stories full of lust and sins. Or “Easy Street” (track #3): a fun song inspired by the lockdown during the 2020 covid-pandemic. Even when Miner gets a bit romantic like in “Strip You Down” (track #8) he sets the scene in a dive-bar. However, all these songs aren’t only about drama, but also about the light at the end of the tunnel that puts a smile on your face.“I always had a weakness for the dark places, moody people and interesting life-stories. All the songs are autobiographical but jazzed up with some of the crazy stories from strangers I met in different obscure places where I played shows. Basically the message is: No matter how wasted I am, I’ll take it with a smile” explains Miner, looking a bit wasted but with a big smile.Marc Miner – BioWhen you think of alternative-outlaw-country-rock and americana music you probably think of USA, maybe Canada. So, Marc Miner is the European outpost. While Nashville is considered the “city of music” in the USA, Marc settled down in the European version of it: Vienna, Austria! As if that weren’t enough Marc is also an international breed: His father from USA met Marc’s mother from Germany in Poland. That’s also where Marc was born, before the family had to leave the country. They moved to Vienna, where Marc grew up and where he started his first bands ranging from rock n roll, rock to even punk and grunge - which at that time was the "teenage sound of revolution". By the age of 16 the rebelling Marc Miner decided to leave home. He traveled through Europe, got a job on board of a container ship and arrived in the USA in 2000. Impressed by the lifestyle of the South, the prairie, the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains and the melodies he heard there he decided to stay.Unfortunately, life isn't a free ride so beside his music jobs he also started to gamble, which finally got him to jail. Marc was accused of illegal gambling, forging and other "trivial offenses" as he calls it. With some help from his father’s influential friends the US authorities finally amnesty Marc, but he had to leave this wonderful country.Back in Europe he finally settled down in Vienna. Here he does what he can do best: playing music in front of a bigger and smaller crowds or recording and producing songs for the outcasts, misfits, losers and broken-hearted.
