Known as a multi-instrumentalist and incredibly versatile singer, he has built a legacy that spans across decades, country borders and genres. His strong dedication to traditional African instruments remains a constant throughout his modern arrangements, making him a giant of contemporary East African music. Throughout the years Makadem has toured Africa, Europe and beyond, headlined many festivals and released his music on various labels.
Makadem's Unplugged represents a return to the musical source of this legacy - almost entirely played on the Nyatiti, a harp traditionally associated with the Luo people in Western Kenya, Makadem's songs feel like enchantments and meditations, revealing raw energy and personal vulnerabilities as the record unfolds.
