Schubert's Winterreise performed by Billstrom and Hogstad
Join us on a musical journey into deep despair. Franz Schubert's immortal music to Wilhelm Müller's poems about the wanderer's path through a winter landscape has eluded listeners for almost 200 years. Winterreise was written in two parts, each consisting of twelve songs. The first part was completed in February 1827 and the second in October the same year. They were also published separately, the first part in January 1828 and the second in December, after Schubert's death. Müller, who was a poet, soldier and librarian at Dessau, died in 1827 at the age of 33. He probably never heard either the first or the second part.
