Fear

„Fear“ ist die aktuelle Single der Soul-Sängerin und Songwriterin Katja Cruz aka Liberty_C. Sie wird am 31. März 2023 veröffentlicht.

Diese letzten Jahre der Pandemie, der russisch-ukrainische Krieg und die Inflation mit all ihren Folgen rufen ein konstantes Maß an Angst in unserer Gesellschaft hervor, die Katja in ihrem Song als schwerwiegende körperliche Erfahrung ausdrückt: “Fear is paralyzing my body, fear is laming all my thoughts…”

Zusätzlich kam für Katja ein Kindheitstrauma auf. Und damit einhergehend der tägliche Schrecken der Erniedrigung und Bestrafung durch ihre Familie, wenn sie sich nicht genau so benahm, wie es von ihr erwartet wurde.
Als Künstlerin und Musikerin erlebte sie auch in ihrem beruflichen wie privaten Bereich immer wieder Demütigungen aller Art.

Aber ihr ganzes Leben lang ging Katja weiter, zog ihre Kinder groß und schuf Kunst und Musik.

Musikalisch ist „Fear“ ein starkes Werk. Schlagzeug und kraftvolle Basslinien erzeugen einen Punk-Metal-Unterton, in Kontrast mit einem vorantreibenden Saxofon, während Katjas Stimme den harten Kampf gegen den Strom der Angst, gegen das Ertrinken, gegen das mentale und physische Zusammen- und Auseinanderbrechen ausdrückt.

Sie singt: “So I’m fighting my fear, hold my head high, for not to drown in this ocean of fear.”

As these last years of pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian war, and inflation with all its consequences cause a constant level of fear in our society, Katja expresses this fear in her song as a heavy physical experience: “Fear is paralyzing my body, fear is laming all my thoughts…”

Additionally, for Katja, childhood trauma came up. And the daily horror of mortification and punishment of her family if she didn’t behave the way she was expected to.
Being a female artist and musician, she also experienced all kinds of humiliation in her professional and private field.

But through her whole life Katja kept walking, raising her kids, and creating her art and music.
By the way - how many (Austrian) female songwriters of her age can you name immediately?

Musically “Fear” is a strong opus. Powerful bass and drums give a Punk-Metal undertone contrasting with thriving saxophone lines while Katja’s voice is expressing this heavy fight against a stream of fear, against drowning, against mentally and physically breaking down and apart.

She sings: “So I’m fighting my fear, hold my head high, for not to drown in this ocean of fear."
