A native Trinidadian. Born in Belmont, Port of Spain. Attended the Belmont Boys Intermediate School. His first live performance was at the Queens Hall (a concert for school children). A winner at “Aunty K´s“. (The only and most popular childrens talent competition on radio at that time). His first live gig was with “the Ray Sylvester Orchestra“ in Hilton Hotel in Port of Spain as Percussionist. It was Ray Sylvester who made the arrangement with one of his Arrangers, “Ed Watson“ to check out Leroys keyboard skills. Watson was strongly impressed with Leroys playing technique so that he wrote out an entire system for chord structure, saying “this is all you need“, everything else is super. After a few days he could play the 7th´s 9th´s 13th´s augmented chords, you name it. Leroy also made the acquaintance with another legendary local musician “Sonny Denner“ who always gave him tips and advice how he could improve his musical skills. After this Leroy was a member of local combos, also performing Saturday nights at the hotel Normandy. Leroy also worked for a short time as keyboarder with the “Clarence Curvan Orchestra“, where he got the first experience of recording with international professional musicians. Then Leroy migrated to Germany.
Leroy Skeete Davis (Lee Davis) is known for his fantastic and unique Piano and Keyboard Style, as well as his Arrangements. Very active and successful working as a Live and Studio Musician in the mid 70´s, 80´s and late 90´s. In Mannheim he was the keyboarder of the “Black Cats“, doing the U.S Club Circuit. This formation also worked as “Backing Band“ on a tour with Arthur Conley and Erma Franklyn“. (Erma Franklyn was the sister of Aretha Franklyn). “The Black Cats“ also toured with Marboo as “Backing Band“ and also did a 7 night stand at the legendary Piper Club in Rome. (Pink Floyd, Duke Ellington)
After the “Black Cats“ broke up Leroy and the bassist “Johnny Huggins“ went to London and reformed the “Foundations“. With the lead vocalist “Colin Young“ (Build Me Up Buttercup) they did gigs and toured in England and Germany, and recorded the single “Something For My Baby“ as “The New Foundations“.
After this Leroy moved up to north Germany.
