Black Import Returns: Kromproom’s Remastered Debut Album Brings Fresh Sound and
On January 12th, Piotr Krompiewski reintroduces us to Black Import, his debut album that first launched his original project, Kromproom. Known for his collaborative work with artists like Carlos Perón (co-founder of Yello), Agressiva 69, Jens Esch Centurio, and Blitzkrieg, Krompiewski originally self-released Black Import in 2003. Now, after 17 years, he brings us a remastered version that highlights his early sound with modern precision and the added bonus of two remixes.Krompiewski shares his personal journey in music creation, expressing that the time spent producing Black Import was an “escape” from challenges at home. "I poured a lot of emotions that accompanied me at that time into these compositions. After so many years, I can honestly say that faith and music saved me from many problems," he explains. His words resonate with a raw truth that reveals the deeply emotional roots of his music.Black Import marks a time of growth and resilience, and the remastered version is Krompiewski’s tribute to his beginnings and his artistic evolution. Given the changes in music promotion and distribution, he recognized the opportunity to re-release Black Import on streaming platforms, allowing both loyal fans and new listeners to experience his foundational work in a new light. The project has also attracted industry attention. Carlos Perón, co-founder and former member of the legendary Yello, discovered Krompiewski's music on MySpace and was struck by its originality. His reaction to the music was clear: "When I listened to the album, in my opinion, Kromproom is the new Boris Blank. If the Tranceonic project continued, it would create the music you hear on the Black Import album." This led to a partnership with Warner Chappell Music and opened up new horizons for Krompiewski's future work. The re-release is accompanied by a video for the opening track, "Incorporate." Krompiewski crafted this piece with Creative Commons footage of Bangkok’s nighttime cityscape captured by drone. The visuals echo the track's layered sound, offering a glimpse into the immersive world of Black Import. Now available globally, Black Import invites fans of electronic music to explore Krompiewski's groundbreaking first steps, from tracker software composition to professional production. This re-release stands as both a nod to Krompiewski’s roots and a promise of more to come. Whether you’re a long-time listener or discovering Kromproom for the first time, Black Import is ready to stream, download, and inspire.
