POPULAR SISTER DUO, KLAWER, RELEASES FIRST EP

The popular South African sister duo, Klawer, is back in the spotlight with the release of their first EP, Dans in die Reën, which not only builds on the unique country-pop style they are famous for but will also satisfy the most discerning ear.

Klawer, which consists of Inge Fanoudis and Martinique Latsky’s new project, combines the easy listening melodies and captivating lyrics of three original tracks, from Martinique’s pen, which will immediately capture the heart of anyone who listens to it.

The titular track is about two lovers who think back to their childhood together, when it was still possible to sit together in the rain without a care in the world. “It was written during the drought in the Western Cape and is a delightful song that will resonate with young and old,” they share.

A music video of the track will also be available soon. It was shot at Picardi Guest Farm in Paarl, where the girls grew up, and starts off by showing the two sisters as little girls, happily sitting together under an umbrella in the rain and also ends with them sharing an umbrella as adults. “We are sisters and very close to one another. With this debut music video, we wanted to share a bit of our happiness with the audience,” says the group about the idea behind the video, which was produced by Neels Moir.

Klawer, which they also consider their theme song, is about searching for happiness - which is symbolically represented by the four-leaf clover. “It’s a nice Country pop track that will make your feet itch to dance and will invite you to sing along,” the girls say.

Neels Moir was also in charge of this humorous music video, which was filmed at Mountain Breeze holiday resort in Stellenbosch. “It’s a tongue-in-cheek story with an old Texas / honky tonk feel about two female bandits overpower two villains in a forest hotel. It’s a nice organic video, with chickens, horses, forest, and more.”

The third song, Saggies, is about two people who want to be together for the rest of their lives. The song will definitely appeal to all ages and they believe that it is going to be a firm favourite at weddings over the next few years. “Martinique originally wrote the song as a wedding song for a friend of ours, which they used to open the dance floor with on their big day.  We recorded it with the 1925 Band and our five voices (two sisters and three brothers) worked well together,” says Inge.

According to Martinique the music video has a calm atmosphere that invites you to sing along. “It was David Gericke’s from 1925 Band’s idea and was recorded in Fred & Max’s restaurant by Pierre Rossouw of Dry Ink Films.” They do not want to reveal much more about the video at this point in time.

Inge and Martinique were born in Paarl and matriculated at Paarl Girls’ High School. The two sisters have been singing since they were children and regularly participated in concerts, competitions and eisteddfods at school.

They shot to fame after reaching the Top 20 of kykNET’s duet competition, Zing after which they decided to form a group and they have not looked back since.

“We decided to name our group Klawer, because the four-leaf clover is a symbol of happiness. We are happy and blessed to have each other and music is our language...,” they say.
