ESC Legend Johnny Logan enjoys THE SUNNY SIDE OF WINTER
"When I heard the song, I knew immediately that it was a Harold production! The intro grabs your attention, the verse has a great melody and transitions very quickly into the chorus. We call that an 'earworm'—it gets stuck in your head and you just can't get it out. But it’s also uplifting and cheerful; I felt I needed to bring a sense of freshness into the studio. Many of my friends who heard the vocals remarked that it sounded more like 1987—my voice sounds much younger!" Just in time for the approaching winter chill, Irish superstar Johnny Logan has recorded the song "The Sunny Side Of Winter."This marks his third collaboration with the internationally successful composer and music producer Harold Faltermeyer, following the song "White Magic" (1994) for the Willy Bogner film of the same name. "Johnny Logan was the first singer who came to mind for this. It’s the perfect marriage of his wonderful voice and my production—starting from the initial demo I recorded with Dominik Hemmer, a brilliant arranger. I explained how I envisioned the structure and recorded a rough vocal demo myself—my usual process—and thought: 'This is a Johnny Logan song!' I really had to push myself to reach the level he’s capable of. In fact, the highest note is the same as the peak note in 'Nessun Dorma'—an A-flat—which is quite something; it’s a part written for a tenor. He pulled it off with astonishing ease." "The Sunny Side of Winter" was penned by the songwriting team of Gernot Rothenbach and Eric Brodka. Harold Faltermeyer reinterpreted the track, bringing on board some young talent: arranger and producer Dominik Hemmer from Graz, who co-produced the song alongside Faltermeyer and his son, Florian Faltermeyer. "I had a vision for how to arrange it—stripping away the kitsch from the original version—and these two young guys brought it to life, applying their expertise in the latest, currently trending sounds."Johnny Logan has always remained true to his music and to himself. His name is inextricably linked to the Eurovision Song Contest. Forty-six years after his first Grand Prix victory in The Hague, 39 years after his second, and 34 years after his third—this time as a composer—he continues to captivate audiences, backed by a career defined by platinum records and sold-out concert tours. This exceptional singer and composer has demonstrated his talent through numerous high-quality songs and albums, leaving a lasting mark on the music industry; in recognition of this, he will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Philosophy at the prestigious Rushford Business School in Geneva in 2025. His new album “Unbreakable” will be released in 2027.Credits:The Sunny Side of WinterPerformed by Johnny LoganMusic by Gernot RothenbachLyrics by Eric BrodkaProduced by Dominik Hemmer & Florian FaltermeyerExecutive Producer Harold Faltermeyer©2026 Published by Kilauea Musikverlag GmbHPhoto credit cover by Manfred Baumann
