A new album of Green Candy? No it's the First (1998) album of Green Candy!

Green Candy, a band from Utrecht started in Harderwijk back in 1996. This album, Silo, was their first release in 1998. The album was recorded in 1997 at an Amsterdam squat called the Graansilo by Arend Heijting, hence the album name Silo. Th graansilo was famous for their big alternative parties and became a culture on its own with a bar, a bakery and the Silo studio.
The band, bsck then called Aurelia Flavedula, performed these songs live several times mainly in the center of Holland. Especially the ska-like songs were appreciated by the last remnants of the punk scene. The songs featured on this album are mainly indie-rock, ska and symphonic rock. In between the songs are some audio recordings audible where the band is discussing the looks of the album cover from a pool. (The album cover turned out te be completely different later).

The band consists of three members: Bernard van den Berg: Durms, main vocals, guitar and bass - Bernie Borkent: Keyboards, vocals, programming and bass - Walter van den Berg: Guitar and vocals and lyrics.
Having "a singing drummer" made the band less fit for stage performance; the audience never understood where the singing came from. Especially because Bernard is not a very tall man. This was also a reason for the band's decision to focus on studio albums from this early album on. Instruments used on this album are a Welson drawbar organ with Leslie amp, Gretsch drums and Fender bass and guitars.

We hope you will enjoy the sound of these early songs from Green Candy!
