Making The Best Of A Horrible Plan
American singer/songwriter Drew Sarich’s list of influences and inspirations spans genres from musical theatre to nineties slacker pop.Raised on a steady diet of The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Stephen Sondheim, Eric Bogosian, Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith, Sarich combines his love for theatrical narrative and intimate, melancholic pop melodies. His fifteen year collaboration with Viennese drummer and producer Titus Vadon has yielded four official albums (and the under-the-radar limited edition release, aptly titled “Secrets”) and one EP. The two formed the Endwerkorchester and have played for years to sold out Viennese audiences. After a brief production break, Sarich and Vadon have reunited for two new singles. Vadon’s label Endwerk Records released “Nobody’s Fault” in May and will release “Making The Best Of A Horrible Plan” this summer. In “Making The Best Of A Horrible Plan”, we find the protagonist of the song in full control of his faculties, but dead set upon gunning his engine and smashing his car, his love and his future into the brick wall that stands before him. He comforts his ill-fated Juliet by cooing, “We both saw this coming. You slipped your trembling hand into mine, so don’t be afraid of how this story ends or press replay to change your mind again.”This is a hyper romantic tale of vehement love, in the face of impending disaster. Titus Vadon’s “warts and all” production brings to mind Evan Dando, Rivers Cuomo and “X/O”-era lliott Smith.
