Chromophobe is an Austrian studio project formed by two musicians and songwriters whose
sound is deeply influenced by the atmospheric and psychedelic worlds of iconic artists such
as Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and David Bowie. The name, derived from the term meaning “fear
or avoidance of color,” reflects a deliberate artistic paradox: a refusal to be confined,
categorized, or defined — ultimately giving rise to music rich in sonic depth and emotional
color.
At its core, Chromophobe stands for pure, handcrafted music. Rejecting technical shortcuts
such as quantization, autotune, MIDI, or AI-assisted production, every element is performed
and recorded live by musicians. Along their journey, close friends and newly discovered
collaborators become part of an extended creative family. These contributors bring their own
emotion and musical identity into each composition — with expression and authenticity
taking precedence over technical perfection.
Their sound blends memorable melodies with expansive sonic landscapes, ethereal guitar
textures, and subtle synthesizer arrangements. Songs tend to unfold gradually, building
tension before evolving into cinematic climaxes. Rooted in the tradition of progressive art
