Award-winning guitarist Bruno Madeira — recipient of over twenty national and international competition prizes — presents his latest solo work: Arabescos, an album that explores the expressive possibilities of the romantic guitar through a repertoire spanning four centuries of music history. With a doctorate from the State University of Campinas and extensive experience as a chamber musician, Madeira brings his full expertise as both performer and researcher to this project, honed through concerts in prestigious venues across Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and Eastern Europe.

Balancing academic rigor with artistic sensitivity, Madeira approaches this historical repertoire with rare finesse. Each piece was selected not only for its beauty but for its ability to converse with the others, creating a mosaic of emotions and techniques. His international career reflects an ongoing quest to explore the guitar’s potential across diverse historical and stylistic contexts. In Arabescos, this research reaches new heights, with interpretations that reveal both his technical mastery and profound connection to each musical era.

The album opens with John Dowland’s A Fantasie, a piece that contrasts with the composer’s characteristic melancholy. Next, Bach’s Suite BWV 995 showcases his “profound command of counterpoint techniques.” From the Classical period, Giuliani’s Grande Ouverture Op. 61 explores the instrument’s possibilities through “arpeggio patterns” and bel canto-inspired melodies. The album closes with two works by Mertz that “evoke states of mind” through rich harmonies and dynamic contrasts.
