Lebendige Vergangenheit

1947 debütierte Manca Serra als Graf Luna in "Il Trovatore" am Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto. Es folgten zahlreiche Engagements in Italien, auch an kleinen und Kleinst-Bühnen. Ab 1952/53 hatte er erste internationale Erfolge am der Stoll Theatre in London. 1956 war er für ein Engagement bei dem Festival of Italian Opera am Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. Mit nur 33 Jahren starb er in Dublin am 25. April 1956 an den Folgen eines anaphylaktischen Schocks nach einer Penicillin-Injektion. Noch einige Monate vor seinem Tod hatte ihn eine amerikanische Plattenfirma kontaktiert, um Aufnahmen mit ihm zu machen und kurz vor seiner Abreise nach Dublin hatte er ein Telegramm von der Mailänder Scala erhalten, die ihm ein Engagement anbot. In 1947 Manca Serra made his debut at the Teatro Mancinelli in Orvieto as Count Luna in “Trovatore”. This was followed by numerous engagements in Italy, including the country's smaller and smallest stages. Starting in the 1952-53 season, he scored his first international success at London's Stoll Theatre. In the spring of 1956 he accepted an engagement at the Festival of Italian Opera at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre. On 25 April 1956 he died at the age of only 33 as the result of an anaphylactic shock after a penicillin injection. A few months earlier, Serra had been contacted by an American record company that wanted to make recordings with him, and only shortly before his departure for Dublin he had received a telegram from Milan's La Scala offering him an engagement.
