"Sentimento Nordestino", Brazilian northeast feeling becomes world music

“Sentimento Nordestino”, is the first album by Brazilian composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Antônio de Pádua. Recorded in 2004, it shows the diversity and range of his musical background. Padua´s musical life began at age 6 playing Choro with the cavaquinho, and at age 12, he was already working with wind bands and orchestras, as an arranger and assistant conductor. At the same time he studied in a music conservatory, played in the youth orchestras of Paraíba and acted with other bands from different styles. This background converged into this album, plenty with the “Brazilian-northeastern” sounds, as he carries in his "DNA" melodic and rhythmic elements from his regional musical upbringing.

The album features marvelous musicians as accompanying artists such as: Sergio Groove, Jubileu Filho, Joca Costa, Zé Hilton, Gilberto Cabral and Eduardo Taufic. Those are professional musicians of the highest level from that region (“Paraíba” and “Rio Grande do Norte” state). They managed to create musical dialogues with genres such as Choro, Samba, Baião, Frevo and Maracatú. All of those rhythms are contained in this album, the “Brazilianness” of a plural artist who is tuned to the different aspects of World music. According to Antônio de Pádua, this album was made with the responsibility to spread, rescue, preserve and enhance the marvelous “folclore tales'' of northeast Brazil.
