Joe Lee Williams built his first guitar himself at the age of seven and learned a few songs from a local musician and entertainer, Clem Ellis.In 1918 he left his family to work on the rough lumber camps arround Greenville, Miss., where he got his first jobs as a musician at various house parties and country suppers.
