Geboren 1923 in Barcelona gab sie ihr Operndebüt bereits 1941 im Alter von 18 Jahren als Mimi in Puccinis La Bohème am Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Nach weiteren drei Jahren Studium begann sie 1944 ihre professionelle Sängerkarriere mit einem Konzert in Barcelona, dem 1945 Auftritte am Liceu als Gräfin in Mozarts Die Hochzeit des Figaro folgten. 1949 debütierte sie an der Pariser Oper als Marguerite in Faust, 1950 an der Covent Garden Opera als Mimi in La Bohème, im gleichen Jahr an der Mailänder Scala und bei den Salzburger Festspielen; 1951 nach einer Südamerika-Tournee an der Metropolitan Opera in New York ebenfalls als Marguerite. Dem Ensemble der Metropolitan Opera gehörte sie bis 1961 an. Auch an der Wiener Staatsoper und bei den Bayreuther Festspielen (1961-62)war sie Gast. Ab 1961 konzentrierte sie sich mehr auf Schallplattenaufnahmen und den Liedgesang und trat nur mehr selten auf der Opernbühne auf. 2005 starb sie in Barcelona an den Folgen einer Bronchitis. Born in 1923 in Barcelona she made her operatic debut in 1941 as Mimi in Barcelona, but then resumed her training. In 1945 she made her formal debut as Mozart's Countess in Barcelona. In 1949 she made her first appearance at the Paris opera as Marguerite. In 1950 she sang at the Scala of Milan and at the Salzburg Festival for the first time. She made her debut at London's Covent Garden as Mimi in 1950, and continued to appear there regularly with notable success until 1961. In 1951 she made her Metropolitan Opera as Marguerite in Faust and remained on its roster until 1956 and later from 1957 to 1961. At the Bayreuth Festival she appeared as Elisabeth and also sang at the Vienna State Opera. From 1961 on she devoted herself principally to a concert career with only occasional appearances in opera. She died in Barcelona in 2005.
