Aida

Mit der Aufnahme der vollständigen "Aida" im Juli 1946 nahm die englische EMl ihre Produktionstätigkeit in Italien nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wieder auf. Es war dies bereits die achte Gesamtaufnahme mit Beniamino Gigli, der zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme 56 Jahre alt war, stimmlich jedoch noch immer hervorragend disponiert war. Für EMI war es die vierte Gesamtaufnahme der Verdi-Oper: 1919 entstand unter der Stabführung von Carlo Sabajno die erste Einspielung - freilich noch vor dem Aufnahmetrichter (mit Valentina Bartolomasi, Rosita Pagani, Enrico Trentini, Adolfo Pacini und Guido Fernandez). Im Oktober 1928 entstand für HMV die erste elektrische Aufnahme mit Dusolina Giannini, Irene Minghini-Cattaneo, Aureliano Pertile, Giovanni Inghilleri, und Luigi Manfrini. Dirigent war wiederum Carlo Sabajno. Im November desselben Jabres produzierte die englische Columbia, damals noch Konkurrent von "His Master's Voice" ebenfalls in Mailand eine weitere Einspielung mit Giannina Arangi Lombardi, Maria Capuana, Aroldo Lindi, Arrnando Borgioli und Tancredi Pasero unter Lorenzo Molajoli. Jahrelang galt die Giannini-Pertile-Aufnahme als das Maß aller Dinge und war auch bis zum Erscheinen der Gigli-Aufnahme in vielen europäischen Ländern und in Amerika lieferbar. Die von Tullio Seratin geleitete Neuaufnahme kam in England im Oktober 1947 auf den Markt, sie wurde von RCA für Amerika übernommen.Neben "Aida" nahm das erfolgreiche Gespann Gigli-Caniglia für HMV weiters "Tosca", "Andrea Chenier", "Ballo in maschera" (PR 2005) und das Requiem von Verdi auf. With this complete recording of "Aida" in July 1946 English EMI resumed their production in Italy after the War. It was their eighth complete opera with Beniamino Gigli, who, at the time of the recording, was 56 years old, but vocally still in excellent shape. For EMI it was the fourth "Aida"-recording: in 1919 the first recording under Carlo Sabajno was still made with the acoustic horn ( with Valentina Bartolomasi, Rosita Pagani, Enrico Trentini, Adolfo Pacini, and Guido Fernandez). For years the Giannini-Pertile recording was considered the measure of all things and was available in many European countries and the United States until the Gigli-recording came on the market. The new recording conducted by Tullio Serafin was issued in England in October 1947 and was published in the United States by RCA.
