Torul - Dark Matters LP
‘Dark Matters’ is Torul's full length, 12 track vocal alternative electro-pop album.
Among other things, it was influenced by the subjectively turbulent period of the recent few years in his life, which were accompanied both with finding power to move on and searching for new hopes and joys, and on the other hand, the occasional downswings of (at times unexplainable) anxiety, melancholy, anger, hopelessness and sadness.
Simply said, Torul did not try to impress with a "hyped-up", artificially expressed positivity because of a simple fact that in our lives we face downswings as well.
The listener is sucked into the story right away; beginning with the shamelessly melodic, yet a bit dark electro-pop song ‘Halloween’, continuing with the energetic ‘Where The Nights Start’, describing a moment of a bright light after sadness, to ‘Take Me Home’, a throbbing song about the desire to feel a sense of home again, ‘If You So Wish’, a song about the disintegration of love, and bitterness it brings, continuing with the search of the way out of the empty moments, the ‘Saddest Song’ and the ‘Elegy’ with self-explanatory titles, and ‘The Happiest Day’, regretful of the precious moments being lost.
It is somehow hard to precisely describe the music style or genre of the ‘Dark Matters’ album, as it uses many different approaches to describe certain moods.
This is surely not a monotonous song collection, and it’s not only about a few songs that stand out - but a rather dark, but not depressing voyage into those...dark matters.
