Radio Erian - Universum
Radio ErianMatthias Erian (electronics)Michael Erian (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone)The analoge meets the digital at the electronic music project of the Erian brothers.A pair of brothers, grown up in the Carinthian Gurktal, Austria, and musically socialised with themusic that flowed from the radio in the 70s and 80s, as well as the parental record collection andthe regional folk music, meets to make improvised music and to trust the intuition. While Michael Erian completed a more conventional music education on the instrument, the field ofactivity of his younger brother Matthias is the electronic music. The meeting of two different approaches makes the musical impact audible and is full of surprises, even for the performing musicians. The sonic stories often develop out of silence, creating miniatures or long pieces built on sprawlingchains of associations. The tool is improvisation. If one understands the concept of improvisation as "reacting", theresulting dialogue enables the dramaturgy underlying the music."No Man Is An Island" (John Donne)The format of the first recording media, bearing the title “UNIVERSUM” is the already almost deadmusic cassette and sees itself as an appeal for the “TOGETHERNESS”, even when it comes todigital and analog.
