Vanni Marcoux

Vanni Marcoux war ein hoher, eher leichtgewichtiger Bass. Die Stimme als solche war nicht ausgesprochen beeindrukkend. Als "singender Schauspieler" aber nimmt er einen Platz unter den ganz Großen ein: er war ein außergewöhnlicher Schauspieler und Interpret, stimmlich wie darstellerisch. Im Gegensatz zu anderen großen Sänger-Schauspielern, deren Wirkung man auf Tonträgern oft nur begrenzt nachvollziehen kann, sind Vanni Marcouxs Interpretationen aber derart plastisch und lebendig, dass man sich die Figuren mühelos vergegenwärtigen kann. Marcoux was a high, rather light-weight bass. His voice, in and of itself, was not particularly impressive. As a “singing actor”, however, he is among the truly great: he was an extraordinary actor and interpreter, both from a vocal and an acting standpoint. Compared with other great singing actors, who often cannot be appreciated fully in their recordings, Vanni Marcoux’s performances were so three-dimensional and true to life that it is no problem at all to imagine the figure he is portraying.
