Blue Cheer's guitar wiz Leigh Stephens and a cast of British Blues and Jazz Rock
Cast of Thousands is the second solo album release from Blue Cheer frontman Leigh Stephens. Originally recorded and released in the U.K. in 1971 on the Charisma label, this album is dramatically different from his debut, Red Weather. Cast of Thousands journeys into more of a jazz, AOR style on most of its tracks. The overabundance of horns and female backup vocals makes it rather experimental at times, but Stephens' superb guitar work does manage to shine through in places. Recorded with a star studded line-up, a.o. Bob Andrews (Brinsley Schwarz) on piano, Aliki Ashman (ex-Airforce) on vocals, Tony Ashton (Ashton, Gardner & Dyke) on piano, Glenn Cornick (Jethro Tull) on bass, Roy Dyke (Ashton, Gardener & Dyke) on drums, Kim Gardener (Ashton, Gardener & Dyke) on bass, Dave Jackson (Van der Graaf Generator) on sax, Dick Morrissey (Colosseum) and Dave Quincey (If) on saxes, Pete Sears (Quicksilver Messenger Service, Rod Stewart) on keyboards, Mickey Waller (Jeff Beck Group) on drums ... and many others ... and, of course, Blue Cheer's very own Leigh Stephens on guitars.
