Take me Back to Denmark: Jasper Mølby wants to be more than just “Timmy”

Jasper Mølby became known far beyond his native Denmark with “Timmy, now you’re free”. Before that, the singer was primarily known at home as the voice behind advertising jingles and as a voice actor. Suddenly, he found himself at the centre of a European chart success. Produced and written by star DJ Dominik Wachta & friends, the song about a stranded humpback whale reached the Top 3 in numerous European charts, spent several weeks at No. 1 in Germany’s “Die Hörercharts” and remained in the European iTunes charts for an extended period. Almost as a side note, “Timmy, now you’re free” was actually the very first of the many “Timmy” and Hope tracks that would later be released by different artists.

DJ Dominik Wachta and Mølby subsequently teamed up again for “A Love from another dimension”. While the second collaboration did not create quite the same buzz as “Timmy, now you’re free”, it also got off to a strong start and has already found its way into several charts. In the “German Listener Charts”, the track is currently at No. 2.

Now, however, Jasper Mølby wants to take the next step and show that there is much more behind the voice of “Timmy”. Although both previous tracks had a relatively soft sound despite their electronic roots, Mølby personally feels most at home in pop music. With “Take me back to Denmark”, he is therefore presenting a song that is truly his own for the first time.

The beautiful pop ballad brings together two themes that are closely connected for Jasper Mølby: love and home. Denmark remains his personal safe place, a country he always wants to return to. That feeling has not changed during the past few months, even though the success of “Timmy, now you’re free” has taken him to Germany time and again, where he has enjoyed many new experiences and met many new people.

“Take me back to Denmark” was produced by Marc Møller-Elstrup and is being released through Northern Light Records. The new track gives Mølby the opportunity to put his own musical identity firmly in the spotlight and to establish himself as a singer independently of his previous projects.

For Mølby, “Take me back to Denmark” is therefore more than just another release. He is enjoying having a song that comes entirely from his own musical world, where he is not simply the voice behind a successful project. This time, Jasper Mølby himself is the headliner.

That does not mean he is closing the door on his successful collaboration with DJ Dominik Wachta. If the renowned DJ were to call him for a third project, Mølby would be more than happy to continue their successful partnership. For now, however, “Take me back to Denmark” takes centre stage – a song that sees Jasper Mølby finding and expressing a musical home of his own.
