Pillado’s powerful master composition beacame the soundtrack for her own film
THE COMPOSITION & THE RECORDINGCecilia Pillado's Amazon Variations is a composition for piano solo that inspired her for making a film based on the "plot" of the different sections. Inspired by esoteric philosophy, the piece is written in an idiom reminiscent of Scriabin and Ginastera with influences of Jazz and South American rhythms. As opposed to a traditional theme and variations, the different sections follow each other without a break, thus giving the piece the character of a Symphonic poem.The recording used as soundtrack for the film with the same name were live recorded at the Berlin Philharmonie with Cecilia Pillado at the piano having an outstanding sound quality.THE FILM The short film “Amazon Variations” by Cecilia Pillado is a “re-composition” of her piano creation through images and effects, the plot of which is hinted at through the titles of the individual parts, revealing a cyclical story of beginning and return.It is a philosophical, mystical, spiritual, experimental, contemplative essay that addresses concepts such as the origin of cosmos, life, fertility, love, destruction, transformation, among others. Or it’s just a journey through the universe and nature, passing through a jungle that holds hidden and unknown dangers, turning back to the starting point. A tribute to the Amazon River, giver of life, to the nature and the cosmos.
